Life Hack “Go With The Flow”

Everyone encounters trouble from time to time. If you’re alive and breathing, you will face challenges. It’s completely normal to have problems in life, no matter who you are.

However, people adopt different strategies to handle tough times. One of the most effective coping mechanisms is to go with the flow.

Imagine you’re swimming near a 10-foot waterfall. As the water flow get stronger and pulls you down, your initial struggle to avoid going over the fall makes sense because you might save yourself. But if you can’t escape the pull, your next smart move is to save your energy. Hold your breath, relax, stay calm, and go with the flow. As soon as you’re out of the water loop, you can start swimming again and find your way out.

Quite similarly, when you see trouble coming, you should act quickly to avoid it. But if trouble is already at your doorstep, welcome it with an open heart. Stop resisting, face it, and accept it as it is. Let it be and go with the flow.

It might take a while for the dust to settle. Give it time.

Once you feel calm and peaceful, you will begin to see everything more clearly. You might discover different possibilities to solve the issue. Hence, you will be in a better position to make decisions. And so, going with the flow helps you tackle your problems in the most efficient way.

I can relate a story from my personal experience. Once, I was traveling in Italy. My plan was to get my own apartment and stay for a few months in the city of Rome. I booked an apartment on Airbnb for a few days, thinking I might find my own place during this time.

I tried many different ways, but I was failing to get what I was looking for. I had to extend my Airbnb contract, which was not desirable because of the price. In June, Airbnb prices in Rome are almost equal to five-star hotels.

On one hand, higher expenses were bothering me, and on the other hand, failing to get the right apartment was annoying. I was not ready to extend my Airbnb stay, but still, I was doing it. After a while, I somehow decided to live in the Airbnb apartment. I stopped looking for a new place.

Something really magical happened! I began to enjoy my time in that apartment. I would go out to explore the historical city of Rome. I ate the best food, met wonderful people, and felt completely relaxed, forgetting about the problem.

Then one day, while chatting with ChatGPT, I asked how to look for an apartment in Rome. ChatGPT advised me to check Facebook groups. I posted an ad there, and a guy contacted me. Guess what? I got my own apartment.

Later, I realized that I couldn’t get an apartment because of frustration. It was affecting my way of communication. With a cool mind, I mostly get things done faster.

Often, our minds magnify problems, making them appear much bigger than they are in reality. You might realize that the issue isn’t as significant as it initially seemed. In fact, acceptance makes you feel stronger, and as a result, the issue seems smaller or lighter.

You might also realize that many times, we work on issues passively. It might seem like we aren’t doing anything, but in the back of our minds, we are planning and connecting dots. When you are calm, you can follow your mind’s lead. The human mind has tremendous abilities; you are capable of accomplishing anything you want. Once you take care of your mind, it will take care of you.

Lastly, going with the flow does not mean giving up. In fact, it is a strategy of strong individuals. Powerful people would listen to heartbreaking news as if nothing happened. They know they are in a trouble, but they also know the right strategy. And that is to stay calm, accept the problem, look for a solution, and get rid of it.

Remember, life is full of challenges, but how you respond to them shapes your journey. Embrace the change and go with the flow, remain resilient, and continue moving forward.
