What’s The Idea:
As always, let’s start with the question: Is it possible for a person to be confident right away when he or she doesn’t feel confident? In other words, can we consciously choose to be confident? In a contrary, things like picking up a glass with our hands, sitting down, and standing up, are the actions of our conscious mind. Similarly, to be happy is not in our control; one cannot choose to be happy even if they want to. Such things are operated by our subconscious mind. In fact, it’s our subconscious mind which controls us most of the time. That’s our operator.
Now, here is the question; if we are controlled by our subconscious mind, does it mean we are helpless and cannot do anything about it? The answer is no.
In fact, the subconscious mind is not our master. It does operate us, but actually, all the information stored in our subconscious mind is fed to it by our conscious mind. It’s we who make our subconscious mind. We program our subconscious mind consciously.
And the good news is that the subconscious mind can be changed. Isn’t that amazing? One can make their subconscious mind the way they want. You have the power over the most powerful part of your mind, “The operator.”
This idea was first presented in 1963 by Irish psychologist, Joseph Murphy, in his famous book, “The power of your subconscious mind”
He was speaker therefore he used to talk about this idea in public events. Murphy has narrated hundreds of stories of different people in this book, who wrote to him or told him how this idea helped them or change their mind.
With this one single idea, you can also restructure your subconscious mind, and essentially your life!
Before we jump into the method, we need to understand one basic concept. Our mind is a tool. Just like we use our eyes to see, in the same way, we use our mind to think. It’s a thinking tool. And we have the power to make it think the way we want.
The Method:
Now, let’s talk about the method. How to feed the right information to the operator?
Your subconscious mind is more like your garden. You can have any fruit you want from your garden, with the condition that you must culture the seed of that plant and then help it grow and nourish.
Which means you can culture confidence, happiness, positivity, kindness, love and any other great idea in your subconscious mind consciously. When you are done with the installation of such ideas, your subconscious mind will start to function differently. It will start operating according to the new information you just entered.
Let’s suppose you want to culture calmness in your subconscious mind. Sit with yourself, close your eyes, and say, “I’m calm, relaxed and peaceful.” Repeat this sentence consciously for 5-10 minutes, 2-3 times a day. It should take less than a month for the subconscious mind to absorb this idea.
The practice works more efficiently before you go to sleep and early in the morning because, the subconscious mind is more susceptible or absorbent during these times. To make it even more effective, it’s better to hear your words while saying it slowly and silently.
The Process:
In theory, this idea is as simple as explained. Practically, it seems not that easy and sometimes, even hard to believe! So, depending on what you want to culture in your subconscious mind, you need to understand the process behind it.
For instance, in the example that we just talked about, your subconscious mind is wired to give you stress let suppose. And so, when you say that you are calm, relaxed and peaceful, it feels more like you are lying to yourself. This is why so many people give up on this technique. They try to culture positivity when they are negative minded. They try to culture happiness when they are sad in reality. Nothing they practice makes any sense!
That’s why we tried to explain earlier that your mind is not you it’s your tool to think with it; you have the power over it. It’s your mind and you can play with it the way you want. So, whenever you practice anything, make sure to believe in it. Whatever your mind says, don’t trust it. If it resists, change the words into something that has even more powerful meaning. Say it with authority. “I am calm, I am relaxed. I am peaceful.” Say it in a way like it’s so obvious.
In the beginning, it will not make sense because essentially, two different ideas are flowing in the opposite directions. Your conscious mind is delivering calmness to your subconscious mind, while your subconscious mind is giving you stress.
Eventually, the flow from subconscious mind will stop. That’s when you’ll experience a state of no resistance. And with time, when your subconscious mind replaces the old idea with the new one, you will feel the effects of the new idea consistently and consciously.
And the funny part is, if you still continue the practice, you will begin to wonder, “Why am I saying this? I’m calm, relaxed and so peaceful already.” When you reach this point, congratulate yourself. After all, this is a sign that you have successfully changed the memory disc in your subconscious mind; you have restructured the operator.
How can this idea change your whole life?
You can apply this formula to every aspect of your life, from personal growth to relationships and even in your life goals and success in general.
Let’s take the common example of a black cat crossing your path, which is usually considered a negative omen. For a person who doesn’t believe in such things, coming across a black cat will not change anything in his life. But if you believe in this, it will change things around you. This is just a small example to help you understand that the external world responds to your subconscious mind.
You can literally ask the universe to work in your favor by believing that all good and great things are going to happen in your life.
Feed your subconscious mind positivity and as soon as you feel positive for real, your outside world will begin to change.
Feed love to your subconscious mind, and as soon as you feel love consciously, you will witness people loving you and caring about you.
Feed success to your subconscious mind, believe 100% that you are going to be successful and blessed. Pretty soon, your real world will respond to your belief and you will begin to witness interesting things happening in your life.
You might have probably realized that we usually don’t get those things which we want so much but we mostly achieve those things which we believe we can achieve. That’s because the world does not respond to our wishes and desires but it does respond to our beliefs. That’s why trust, optimism and confidence are the most powerful ingredients to nourish any idea in the garden of your subconscious mind.
